We're delighted to announce that Overleaf founder John Hammersley has been asked (and has agreed!) to join the PaperHive advisory board.

PaperHive is a newly launched coworking hub for researchers, which is aiming to "simplify research communication and transform reading into a process of collaboration". They joined the Centre for Entrepreneurship startup incubator at TU Berlin in June 2015, and earlier this year launched an open beta of their platform.

PaperHive recently interviewed John for their online magazine, and he adds here that:

"It was great to meet [PaperHive founders] Alex and André at the SSP meeting in Vancouver earlier this year – they were full of enthusiasm for what they're building, and combined this with a good understanding of the space they're working in.

I have to admit I was pretty surprised to be asked to be an advisor...and I'm still not sure if it makes me feel like a successful founder or simply an old one! But I was very happy to accept, and I look forward to working with them in future to help PaperHive where I can."

John is also a mentor for new startups joining the Bethnal Green Ventures accelerator programme based in London, of which Overleaf (then called WriteLaTeX) graduated in 2013. He recently took part in a Reddit AMA on the transition from academic to industry to entrepreneur, and is speaking at the upcoming Digital Science Catalyst Grant event on "What Makes a Successful Scientific Startup?".

If you're based in or near London and would like to find out more about PaperHive, and about new and exciting innovations in science and publishing tech, come along to our next #FuturePub event, being held on the 13th September near Kings Cross. There are seven lightning talks, including one from PaperHive, plus free pizza, drinks, and a chance for discussions and networking afterwards. Sign up for your free ticket here.
